Solar advocates rally at the Idaho State Capitol, August 17. The event was organized by the Idaho Chapter of the Sierra Club. PRC was there and gave presentations.

Here’s a message from the Director of the Idaho Sierra Club chapter, Lisa Young, summarizing the event:

Saturday's event, organized by the Idaho Sierra Club, was a big success, and it was thanks to each and every one of you, banding together before and during the rally to bring all the right puzzle pieces together so we could collectively raise some visibility on these important societal issues.

Here's some of the great press coverage we earned, with more to come:

And here's some of the beautiful photos we've published, with more to come, as well!

With Saturday's high at 101°, Mother Nature made sure that day that we all remembered what's at stake here: a rapidly warming planet that will not only make rallies much hotter and sweatier ;) but also pose grave threats to particularly the most vulnerable among us.

This rally brought over 100 people together on our state's Capitol steps to say that affordable, accessible rooftop and community solar power are an urgent, critical need in our communities--decrying Idaho Power's rate changes and celebrating federal funds that, if leveraged properly in our state, could help us deliver the benefits of solar to thousands of low-income Idaho and Tribal households.

We got our messages out there, let our state's utilities and leaders know that we're here, we're organizing, and we won't stop until we achieve the Climate Justice and Energy Democracy that our communities deserve.

The SolarForAll grant competition was created through the InflationReductionAct to increase accessibility to affordable, clean, and resilient solar energy for low-income and disadvantaged households, while also creating jobs and lowering energy costs. With these grants, Idaho cities can improve their plans to reduce air pollution and help close the equity gap in access to solar energy at no cost to the city’s budget.

Let's bring this free federal funding to Idaho to expand access to affordable local solar power in our state! You can send your comment/support using the easy form, linked here:
