Put Water First means taking a systematic view of watershed protection that combines water quality, water quantity, and human and ecosystem health. PRC members are working with local officials to implement programs and policies that protect the Lower Portneuf Valley Aquifer, our only source of drinking water, and the Portneuf River watershed for the long-term wellbeing of people, ecosystems, businesses and economies of the Portneuf River valley.
The goal is to protect groundwater, rivers and streams, and wetland areas to ensure a clean and safe drinking water supply. We are bringing water protection to the forefront of local decision makers to help achieve a balance between environmental and economic concerns.
The model of Put Water First in decision making grows from the realization that a clean and abundant water supply is the lifeblood of our community. Poorly-regulated and unaccountable industrial, business, and development practices threaten our water supply and endanger human, environmental, and economic health.
